Radical Detox

Radical Detox

For several years now “detoxes” have been trending. You may have seen the crazy Hollywood types like the master cleanse where you only drink a type of lemonade, saltwater, and laxative teas for 10 days.

Please don’t do that. Radical detoxes are not safe — for anyone.

Theoretically, our bodies are able to detoxify without any outside help. We have a variety of detox pathways that are tasked with eliminating toxins from the body. And in a perfect world, that’s all we’d need.

But we are exposed to so many toxins in our modern environment — heavy metals, pesticides, industrial chemicals, pollution, and more. Sometimes our bodies do need some help.

If you or your child has a complex illness or autoimmune disease, detoxification is critical. But if your body is already compromised, detoxing can be tricky. The last thing you want to do is trigger your body to release toxins without a way to safely eliminate them.

Our bodies eliminate all the toxins they can. But when the toxic load is too much, they will store them as safely as possible. When you introduce a detox, you trigger the body to start releasing these stored toxins.

And when that happens, your body needs to be able to safely escort those toxins out. Otherwise, toxins can enter the bloodstream and be reabsorbed, doing double the damage.

It is possible to detoxify safely, even if you have an autoimmune disorder or complex illness. But in order to do that, you need to give your body a way to grab the toxins and get them out.
