That is clear from the former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Seri Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad al-Bakri through his latest article shared through the social media channel, Maktabah Al-Bakri.
Zulkifli said, if there are other halal alternatives, then this requirement is nullified.
According to him, he is also of the view that it is time for the Muzakarah Committee of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia to issue its views on this issue.
“Indeed, studies like this are very important to solve the critical problems of today related to treatment and medicine,” he said.
He said the basic principle for organ transplants involving humans-animals is that it is illegal to use faeces for medicine if there is a sacred substance.
However, he said, fecal material can be used if it is an urgent need and no other sacred material can be used.
Zulkifli said that the ulama ‘agreed on the illegality of the use of faeces as a medicine, but differed on the necessity due to emergency.
“For the Syafie sect, the use of bones that are considered najis, is not allowed except in very urgent situations and there is no other alternative than sacred bones,” he said.
The media previously reported that surgeons in the United States (US) successfully transplanted pig kidneys into humans for the first time in medical history.
According to the Daily Mail, the procedure performed by a team of surgeons at NYU Langone Health in New York marks a ‘significant step’ in the use of animal organs to save human lives.
